WEEK 2 - Ken Robinson 2006 Ted Talk Episode on Creativity Education and Interlligence

Sir Ken Robinson

Sir Ken Robinson said that our education system works like a factory. The system are based on models of mass education and conformity that actually prevent kids from finding their passions and succeeding. Our education system create us to be worker. The systems are boredom. Eventhough, we must go through the system but we should not follow all the way. We have the creativity, we must have confidence to share it.

" But something strikes you when you travel around the world: Every education system on Earth
has the same hierarchy of subjects. It doesn't matter where you go. You'd think it would be
otherwise , but it isn't. At the top are mathematics and languages, then the humanities, and at
the bottom are the arts -- everywhere on Earth. "

It is the same everywhere on Earth like Sir Ken Robinson said. I'm an art students which is in Foundation of Creative Multimedia in Multimedia University Cyberjaya.

Students at my university always look down on art students like me. Such, when someone asks you, " Hello, are you from creative multimedia students?" You replied," Yup". And they will said," Oh, your Mathematics level must be pretty low." You know what I meant? Actually, not all the art students are bad in Mathematics. Like me, my Mathematics level is quite high.  In my SPM results, my Mathematics get A+ and the otherwise, my Addtitional Mathematics get B+. Besides, many people always think that Science students are the best, smartest, most intelligent people in the world or the people that have bright and successful future, have a great career and those make lots of money and etc. Even for some parents also thought like that, they thought " art " cannot make lots of money, but they all are wrong, totally wrong. Parents always want their children study cleverly and hope them became doctors, engineer, and others.
Doctor
Engineer

None of them want to let their children became artist, designer and etc.
Artist
Designer

Actually , art students like me can be very successful. For example, in my university, students learn about photography, graphics design, visual communication, drawing, and they are even trained us to be a professional journalists through tasks like writing, blogging, which is what I'm doing right now in Creative Studies and Media Appreciation which studied at last trimester. In fact, art students can be almost everything, they can become photographer, designer, journalists, artist and also many career. They can use the knowledges and skills to do many side of jobs.
Photographer
Graphics Designer
Journalists
Artist

Imagine this, you work as a graphics designer, but at the same time, you be a part time photographer and also an artists. How much money will you make a month? Let say, you design a simple logo for a company, they would pay you RM3000++ for a simple logo. Then, you take photographs for someone's wedding, and they would pay you almost RM2000++, as you are a professional photographer. Otherwise, when you have more time, you also can become an artist by drawing something and sell it. If your drawing skill is very good, you also can earn more money for a drawing. How much money do you earn? I mearnt that an art students are not loser. They can be more successful than Science students. That's the fact.

One more things that I can't forget it is the story which Sir Ken Robinson said,
A teacher asked the girl: " What are you drawing? "
The girl answered: " I'm drawing a picture of God. "
The teacher said: " But nobody know what God looks like. "
The girl said: " They will know in a minute. "

This story tell us about kids will do everythings what they want. They never think is it can or not. Instead of that kids will create a lot of idea. But when they went into our education system in the primary, secondary or university, everythings are limited. They can't do what they want.
